Mariam Lau
Born in Tehran, Iran, in 1962. The family moved to Germany in 1965, first in Tübingen, then in Berlin. She initially trained as a nurse and practiced enthusiastically until 1987, then worked night shifts and attended adult education for a few years. She studied American studies in Berlin and Bloomington, Indiana. She then worked for many years at the “taz” newspaper, first as a culture editor, then as a department head. From 1997 to 2003, she worked as a freelancer for the “Welt” newspaper, where she gave birth to three daughters. From 2003, she headed the opinion department at the “Welt.” Since May 2010, she has been on the political editorial team at ZEIT, where she covers the CDU and internal politics.
