June 10 — Swedish activist Greta Thunberg talks to journalists as she arrives at Arlanda airport outside Stockholm, Sweden. She was deported from Israel on Tuesday, after she was detained along with other activists aboard the Gaza-bound aid sailship Madleen.
Worst mass shooting in Austria’s history
June 10 — People attend a memorial ceremony at a church in Graz, after a 21-year-old man entered a school in the Austrian city and opened fire, killing 10 in what is the deadliest mass shooting in Austria’s recent history.
Cristina Kirchner sentenced to six years in prison
June 10 — Former Argentine President Cristina Kirchner saw her political life come to an end this week, as the Supreme Court upheld her six-year sentence for corruption as well as a lifelong ban from running for office.
Scarlet Sails at the ready in St Petersburg
June 13 — The Rossiya brig sails down the Neva River in St Peterburg, Russia, during a rehearsal for the upcoming Scarlet Sails Festival celebrating high school graduates.
Air India flight to London crashes with 242 on board
June 12 — People walk by the crash site of the London-bound Air India flight after its accident in Ahmedabad, western India. The tragedy saw 263 or the 264 passengers lose their life, while at least eight people were killed on the ground as the plane fell on a residential area just moments after take-off.
Anti-immigration riots erupt in Northern Ireland
June 12 — Armed police are on alert in Portadown, as well as across Northern Ireland, following three nights of chaos. Violence targeting the homes of immigrants broke out after an alleged sexual assault in Ballymena, in the north of the country, late last week.
Strawberry Moon in Leipzig
June 11 — A rare “Strawberry Moon” is pictured above Leipzig’s skyline. Named after the strawberry harvest at the start of summer, this was the lowest such full moon visible in nearly 20 years, with the next one set to take place in 2043.
