After graduating from the Europaschule in Kerpen in 1989, she studied political science, German literature, and history in Bonn. After internships at the Mitteldeutscher Express in Halle (Saale) and the Kölner Express, she worked as a correspondent in Bonn and Berlin for Der Spiegel from 1997 to 2004 and has worked for Die Zeit since 2004. She is a frequent guest at the ARD Press Club.
