Hamas send bodies to Israel
Feb 20 – Hamas militants hand over the bodies of what it said were four Israeli hostages to the Red Cross in Khan Younis, as part of a ceasefire agreement with Israel. Yet later in the day, Israeli specialists said that one of the four bodies was an unidentified woman, and not hostage Shiri Bibas. The remains of the woman’s two sons, Kfir and Ariel were handed over and identified on Thursday. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Hamas “will pay” for not turning over the mother’s remains.
Russia & U.S. discuss Ukraine peace in Riyadh
Feb. 18 – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrives in Riyadh for bilateral talks with the U.S. about the war in Ukraine — without Ukraine representatives at the table.
Toronto plane crash
Feb. 18 – A passenger plane flipped over on the tarmac before coming to a rest. All passengers and crew on board survived the crash.
Bolsonaro charged over coup attempt
Feb. 20 – Former President Jair Bolsonaro speaks to the press in Brasilia after being barred from running until 2030, over his involvement in an alleged coup attempt back in 2022.
Praying for Pope Francis
Feb. 20 – Nuns pray near Rome’s Gemelli Polyclinic, where Pope Francis has been hospitalized. The pontiff, now in stable condition, has been diagnosed with pneumonia in both lungs.
Yoon Suk Yeol on trial
Feb. 20 – Impeached Yoon Suk Yeol appears in court in Seoul, as he becomes the first sitting South Korean president to go on criminal trial, over his martial law declaration in December 2024.
