CAIRO – Conflicting reports continued Wednesday on the condition of Egypt’s former President Hosni Mubarak, after he was transferred from prison to a military hospital following a stroke, Egyptian daily Al-Masry Al-Youm reports.
“Hosni Mubarak is clinically dead,” the official MENA news agency had reported late Tuesday. But later, security and medical sources, as well as Mubarak’s lawyer Farid al-Deeb, said the 84-year-old was in stable condition, though in a coma and on life support, Al-Arabiya reported.
By the late morning, security officials told AP that Mubarak was still in a coma, but off life support, and that his heart and other vital organs were functioning.
Mubarak’s health has rapidly declined since he was ousted from power in January last year by a popular revolt.
