The move came following mounting calls from many Democrats for the 81-year-old leader to make way for a new nominee, after a disastrous TV debate against Donald Trump and a series of embarrassing gaffes raised questions over his ability to run for a second term. Biden has endorsed his vice president Kamala Harris to be the party’s presidential candidate.
