Mar. 10 – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky meets Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah for peace talks with U.S. officials. The discussions aimed at negotiating a 30-day ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, with the U.S. expressing support for Ukraine’s position.

Mar. 11 – A Filipino protester holds a sign depicting former President Rodrigo Duterte behind following his arrest. Duterte left Manila after the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued a warrant accusing him of crimes against humanity over his deadly “war on drugs”. Duterte was extradited from Hong Kong to the Hague, Netherland, where he was taken into police custody shortly after landing.

Mar. 11 – Tug boats shadow the Portuguese cargo ship Solong after it collided with the U.S.-flagged tanker Stena Immaculate near Hull in the North Sea. All 23 crew members from the tanker escaped unharmed, but one Solong crew member is missing and presumed dead. The ship’s Russian captain was arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter. Investigations are ongoing, while authorities assess the environmental impacts of the accident.

Mar. 9 – Mark Carney and Justin Trudeau share an embrace after Carney was announced as the new Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada at a leadership event in Ottawa. Carney’s win signals a new direction for the party as it prepares for upcoming elections and works to strengthen its position in Canadian politics. Although no timing has been confirmed, Trudeau — who served as Canada’s leader for almost 10 years — is expected to transition out of office in the near future.

Mar. 8 – Impeached South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol was released from detention following a court ruling. He arrived at his official residence in Seoul, waving from a vehicle of the Presidential Security Service. Yoon faces a trial over his short-lived attempt to impose martial law in the country back in December.

Mar. 12 – Girls apply Gulal, the coloured powders used for some Hindu rituals, to each other during Holi festival celebration in Prayagraj, India. The colorful festival, which attracts millions of local and foreign visitors every year, officially starts on March 14.

Mar. 11 – During the first day of the 2025 Cheltenham Festival, Paul Townend and his horse State Man go down at the last hurdle, as they were racing for the Unibet Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy. The British Horse Racing Authority confirmed to the media that both the horse and the jockey are “absolutely fine.”
