LECCO — Who has never had it happen to them? Let’s face it, the quickie is a great classic of couple sexuality. Its appeal is always timeless. That moment when, suddenly, everything is turned upside-down.

Because the quickie always comes between moments of quiet, calm, when we are engaged in something else. And then, without any warning whatsoever, passion takes over. Our bodies cannot and will not escape it, even though at that moment our mind would ask for something else.

In a world that’s moving fast, even too fast maybe, the quickie is the punctuation of a lively sexuality that brings back humanity and vitality. It is the unforeseen, unplanned that interrupts the incessant activity with the human unconscious and desire — but an instinct that too few are willing to listen to.

The quickie, in other words, is good for you…

The chemical benefits of a quickie

The quickie has countless benefits on the biological and chemical level, which irrevocably spill over into our mental balance.

This is related to the human basics and to the animal inside each of one us and is too often silenced. An act related to our inherent bestiality inherent, the quickie brings first of all basic physical benefits:

• Adrenaline: whether it is in an office, a lobby, an elevator, a car in some not-so-private parking lot or a public restroom, the potential of the place to connote the quickie is enormous. The location must be one that is not socially predisposed to sexual intercourse. A carnivalesque place, in the sense that it reverses the socially and commonly accepted perspective to become a theater of pleasure;

Dopamine: works exactly the way a drug does, generating a state of euphoria that is impossible to resist;

• Oxytocin: this hormone that makes us more sensitive, more empathetic, and makes us feel in a perpetual state of grace, connected to the rest of the world and at peace;

• Serotonin: is the hormone of balance, which ensures the proper functioning of the basic well-being of our body and thus our psyche, in the sleep-wake cycle, body temperature and appetite.

Adding these elements together, the quickie allows a state of harmony with ourselves and our surroundings that few other practices give in such an immediate, simple and pleasant way.

One aspect to always keep in mind is the relationship between the state of physical and mental well-being.

This whole list of hormones, in sum, results in mental fulfillment as well, which is equally fundamental to happiness and successful daily living.

Mental benefits too

If we think about it, the quickie’s real power lies in its being unexpected. Today, the unexpected has the sound and appeal of something exotic and heavenly, for it is a true and impregnable bastion of transgression.

According to the Latin etymology of the term “to transgress” means “to go beyond,” but with respect to what? Certainly with respect to the rules, norms and dictates that society and culture impose on our daily lives.

The quickie is pure unpredictability.

One transgresses when they do not actually do what others would expect, what is socially acceptable. For example, how many people would admit to having sex in the doorway of a building with the risk of someone walking in and finding two people entwined, emitting moans of pleasure?

Pure unpredictability

Everyone would answer no to that question, but they would also secretly want to feel that emotion.

In the age of endless scheduling, of social and trends that allow us to find content we like and seem tailor-made immediately and at the click of a button, in which Google Calendar sends continuous notifications half an hour before the next call or meeting. In an era where the pandemic has marked souls and bodies, invading the society of fear of the other, of the foreigner.

In the age of migration and distrust of what comes from outside, the quickie is pure unpredictability, pure unexpectedness that reminds us that humanity endures, despite everything.
