ATLANTA – The world’s second most closely watched pregnancy has reached an end: Lun Lun, Zoo Atlanta’s giant panda gave birth to two little cubs on Monday night — the first twin pandas born in the U.S. since 1987.
Both cubs appeared healthy, Zoo Atlanta deputy director Dwight Lawson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Lun Lun, a 15-year-old panda on loan from China, went into labor Monday afternoon and gave birth to the first cub at 6.21 p.m. and the second two minutes later, AP reveals.
“This is a success we share with all of our fellow zoological organizations working to understand and protect this iconic species, and we share our joy with our local community and with our colleagues in China,” Raymond B. King, Zoo Atlanta’s president and CEO said in a news release.
