New Jersey-based singer SZA released a new song called “Divinity” last week. The seven-and-a-half minute track, made up of minimalist elements of R&B, features a collaboration with the soul and funk singer Jill Scott.
SZA is part of the new wave of artists coming to light in what has been labelled as “alt R&B” or “cloud rap.” The 23-year-old is signed on Kendrick Lamar’s label, TDF (Top Dawg Entertainment), and is expected to be one of the rising artists of 2014.
Her two first EPs, See.SZA.Run and S, self-released in 2012 and 2013, were followed by her first album Z, in April 2014.
