Brick By Brick

Things were getting heated in West Berlin in the summer of 1967. The conflict was escalating between the government and the West German student movement, peaking with the police shooting dead a young protester just one month before we went there.

This photo shows the ongoing construction of the Berlin Wall, six years after the first barbed wire went up to keep East Germans from crossing over. The sign on the picture indicates that we were leaving the French sector of West Berlin.
