Editorial Mission

Worldcrunch is committed to the expansion of a free and responsible press around the world, contributing to the widest possible exchange of information, ideas and stories across geographical and linguistic boundaries. We believe that:

  • Every story, no matter how seemingly small or locally focused, no matter in what language it is told or where it originated, can have relevance and resonance anywhere in the world.
  • Excellent journalism is being produced every day in scores of places, languages, formats and a variety of approaches to the craft. Finding the best, most relevant stories and making it accessible to the widest audience possible, regardless of its original language, can improve global journalistic output and help foster a better society and international understanding.
  • To help us improve our customer and user experience and to support in new product development. We may send customer satisfaction surveys and market research questionnaires (for which we may share your information with third party suppliers employed by us).
  • The highest editorial and ethical standards of truth-seeking, transparency, accuracy, privacy rights and the vigilant protection of sources are a prerequisite of a free and constructive press, no matter what the perceived objectives might be. In journalism, the end can never justify the means.
  • Finding sustainable business models is crucial to the survival of a free press, but we must be more vigilant than ever to avoid conflicts of interest that may arise in the pursuit of economic goals.
  • Intellectual property must always be protected, including the strict adherence to copyright laws and respect of licensing rights. Fair use standards allow for appropriate aggregation of limited portions of published content in order to further inform the public, so long as it does not infringe upon the economic and intellectual rights of the original producer and/or publisher of the work. Citing the sources and authors of journalism, in particular in other languages, is core to our mission.
  • Journalism is essentially a human entreprise, and news organizations must be built in ways to support the work of journalists and editorial teams.
  • The forward-looking application of technology is one of the most powerful tools for discovering and disseminating information, though technology itself should never be the ultimate purpose of journalism.
