Sheik Seeks Dozens Of Young Italian Women For European Vacation

They must look good and know how to...shop.

So sheik
So sheik
Anna Martellato

PADUA —An unidentified sheik from Dubai has put out a rather particular "Help Wanted" ad in Italy. You will be paid 100 euros a day to accompany him and his family on a trip across Europe. The position includes unlimited shopping sprees for yourself, and stays in the best hotels and meals in the most luxurious restaurants.

Of course, you must be young, good-looking...and female.

Casting began Friday in the northern city of Padua, where the modeling agency DocStile has been tasked with selecting candidates for the sheik from Dubai, who'd approached them to find girls to accompany him, his children, wives, grandchildren and various other relatives (between 40-50 people, including bodyguards) on their vacation throughout Europe.

They’re trip begins next month, with stops in Paris, Madrid, Stockholm, London, Ibiza and, finally, Italy.

Hence the need for escorts, who will double as personal shoppers. The requirements for this job? Candidates must be young and beautiful, preferably Italian, able to speak English, self-confident, “refined,” and able to walk in a pair of high-heel Louboutins while holding a Kelly bag.

Anyone assuming this job entails a second meaning of the word escort is wrong. “We were contacted by an agency in Dubai, and we spoke with the sheik’s manager,” explains DocStile’s Mauro Belcaro. “Naturally, we spoke to our legal team, and there’s no ‘second meaning.’ It’s all very serious.”

Potential candidates must be between 18 and 26 years old and know how to administer first aid. “For their safety as well as that of those around them,” Belcaro says. Some knowledge of Arabic culture would also be useful, but even more important is a deep understanding of the fashion world. Successful candidates will not only be able to shop endlessly for themselves, but will also advise the sheik on his attire and accessories.

“The castings will take place every Friday until the end of the month,” Belcaro explains. “We’ll ask questions about their studies, their personalities, general culture, as well as test their English and fashion knowledge. If the selected girls don’t know enough about the fashion world, they will attend a class.”

Young women are calling in droves, even from abroad, Belcaro says. “Girls from Croatia and Morocco have telephoned. We request that those who do want to participate in the castings email info@docstile.it to schedule the day and time,” he says.

But be warned that it’s a short-term opportunity. Every 15 days there will be a “turnover” in which the girls — 10 at a time — will be replaced by another team to accompany the sheik and his entourage.

A Foreign Eye On America's Stunning Drop In Life Expectancy

Over the past two years, the United States has lost more than two years of life expectancy, wiping out 26 years of progress. French daily Les Echos investigates the myriad of causes, which are mostly resulting in the premature deaths of young people.

On May 6, a gunman opened fire in a Texas supermarket, killing eight people, including several children, before being shot dead by police. Particularly bloody, this episode is not uncommon in the U.S.: it is the 22nd mass killing (resulting in the death of more than four people) this year.

Gun deaths are one reason why life expectancy is falling in the U.S. But it's not the only one. Last December, the American authorities confirmed that life expectancy at birth had fallen significantly in just two years: from 78.8 years in 2019, it would be just 76.1 years in 2021.

The country has thus dropped to a level not reached since 1996. This is equivalent to erasing 26 years of progress.Life expectancy has declined in other parts of the world as a result of the pandemic, but the U.S. remains the developed country with the steepest decline — and the only one where this trend has not been reversed with the advent of vaccines. Most shocking of all: this decline is linked above all to an increase in violent deaths among the youngest members of the population.

Five-year-olds living in the U.S. have a one in 25 chance of dying before their 40th birthday, according to calculations by The Financial Times. For other developed countries, including France, this rate is closer to one in 100. Meanwhile, the life expectancy of a 75-year-old American differs little from that of other OECD countries.
