Snap! Cuba's Pole Fault

LE MONDE, FRANCE TV (France)

Cuba's dreams of winning Olympic gold in the pole vault today were left in shatters - after Lázaro Borges' pole snapped into pieces.

The 26-year-old slammed the pole into the ground when attempting to clear a height of 5.35 meters but ended up awkwardly crashing into the mat when the pole gave way.

The Cuban escaped injury and eventually cleared the height - once he found a new pole of course - (watch a longer video here). Poor Lázaro finished seventh and therefore failed to qualify for the final, which will take place on Friday.

Another "Olympic fail" video went viral Wednesday after Germany's Stephan Feck dived a spectacularly embarrassing back flop and crashed out of the games in last place.
